Samui gay life is a relaxing, quieter contrast to the exuberant gay life of Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. Bars and clubs are more laid back and friendly. The local gay community is easy to encounter at gay and mixed venues or as you enjoy the island's many leisure offerings. Samui men are handsome, down to earth and tend not to be as flashy as those in the larger gay destinations, a good reason why many gay tourists prefer Samui.
While you may meet other gays and lesbians in places such as Lamai, Nathon, Bo Phut and Mae Nam, the hub of gay life here is Chaweng Beach In the Centre of Chaweng, near Starbucks (which is quite a gay meeting place) there are several, small, gay owned and operated bars: Star Boys, K Club and Corner Guy. All extremely lively, open fronted bars where the customers are local gay Thai guys, expats and lots of travellers. Patrons move freely between each bar and often "spar" off each other which is fun and the impromptu shows are a hoot. These are nice places and people, totally unaffected. The Site Bar at South Chaweng is a very nice place, laid back, interesting mix of gays you usually end up talking with. The gay scene in Samui is still small, and the names and venues change frequently, so make sure you ask the staff at the Little Palace for the most recent updates.
Some of these bars offer massage in the afternoon and early evening, but the best time to visit is normally from about 10 PM onwards. Some of the nearby cabaret venues have shows at 10 PM and 11 PM. Many gay men choose to continue partying at the mixed "Green Mango" disco, which closes at 2 AM, and eventually move on to locales that are open until the early morning.
Some gay men gather for volleyball on the Chaweng Beach near OP Bungalows in the late afternoon. There is also a more "cruisy" gay beach further to the north.
The "Little Palace-Team" will be happy to show you all of them!
